Day 53 Rogiet to Chepstow (Wales Coast path) and Chepstow loop ((Offa's Dyke) (14.2 miles, cumulative 894.7)

Wales Coast Path completed!

I had breakfast with a man who was walking from John O' Groats to Land's End, so we exchanged war stories. He had followed a very similar route to mine ten years ago.

The sun had returned as I headed to the station to catch the train back to Rogiet. Today's short walk was scenic and very well signposted. After crossing the M4, there were views of both road bridges over the River Severn, the estuary and the English coast. I raced to the finish of the coast path - it had taken me 52 days and 1.5 hours - and managed to persuade a stranger to take some photos. This attracted attention and, very quickly, strangers were making cash donations.

After a short break, I walked to the start of the Offa's Dyke footpath and completed the first couple of miles. It suddenly dawned on me that I was briefly back in England for the first time since leaving Chester at the start of my walk over seven weeks ago.

Later, I met up for dinner at an Italian restaurant with my mum, my sister and her husband. They'd brought clean clothes, which I exchanged for unclean clothes, together with my old boots and some discarded kit.

I'm doing this walk to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. If you would like to help celebrate my completion of the WCP,  you can make a donation to this worthy cause via my Justgiving page:
