Day 51 Cardiff to Newport (16.2 miles, cumulative 861.9)

I joined David for a Premier Inn full English breakfast before he headed back to London, then I walked into the city to sort out my boot issue.

The staff at Cotswold Outdoor were very helpful. They felt that I had a valid warranty claim on the faulty boot, but I can't progress this until I'm back home. In the meantime, they gave me a good discount on a new pair of boots - I left the shop wearing them, ready for immediate action.

The first part of today's walk was grim, the most depressing section of the entire walk. After some busy roads around Cardiff Docks, the coastal path was overgrown. The smells were unpleasant (it wasn't me, I checked!), the shore was littered with debris (fridges, sofas, furniture, gas canisters) and the footpath with general litter for a lengthy section. The path finally emerged into a more pleasing rural environment, joining an embankment next to the coast which ran for miles. I met a couple from Scotland, who were walking a long stretch of the coastal path over ten weeks.

The route into Newport was dominated by industrial and retail parks, before passing the famous transporter bridge, which is currently closed until 2024. I headed for the station and caught the first train back to Cardiff.
