Day 50 Barry Island to Cardiff (15.2 miles, cumulative 845.7)

I set off to walk the perimeter of Barry Island, which didn't take long, then headed to the Premier Inn to meet David.

The first part of the walk followed busy urban roads, until the path passed through woodland,  then we were suddenly on the coast. We followed the shore line, occasionally venturing onto the shingle, crossed fields of crops, then later reached the classy seaside resort of Penarth.

David managed to stay the entire course, despite an existing foot injury, battling through pain to complete the walk with determination and resilience.

We arrived at the Cardiff barrage and walked around it to our accommodation, close to the Senedd (Welsh parliament) building. David's daughter Catherine, who just happened to be in Cardiff for a conference, joined us for dinner.

Finally, a very happy birthday to Henry, my favourite teenage nephew, who is 18 today. Henry cooked me a succulent steak on the eve of my walk, providing the important proteins to equip me for the start of the journey.
