Day 21 Llanaber to Towyn (18.7 miles, cumulative 358.3)

Mark and Ed's final walk. We started from the front door and headed for Barmouth, still slumbering in the early morning weekend sun. Next stop the famous Barmouth bridge, as we crossed the Mawddach estuary to Fairbourne, where the population is living on borrowed time, courtesy of authority decisions not to invest further in flood defences. Our bodies were then put to the test as we started a steep climb through woodland to the ridge, but the effort was rewarding, with panoramic views across the entire Cardigan Bay, from Bardsey island to Barmouth, including a crystal clear view of Snowdon.

We gradually descended through farmland to Tonfanau, then followed the promenade to Towyn. With time to spare before catching the train back, we visited a local hostelry - seeing my banner, the landlord offered free drinks and a donation.
