One week to go
As I write, I'm sitting in my hotel room in Warsaw, nearing the end of a month's Interrailing around Scandinavia and the Baltic states with my son Daniel. It has suddenly dawned on me that in just one week's time I will be in Chester taking my first steps of a 1,050 mile journey on foot around Wales.
This realisation fills me with a degree of trepidation. Am I ready for this? I've certainly walked a considerable number of miles in the last few months, but I've not managed to fit in too many days of 20 miles or more. I've also not really carried a heavy load during my training. So it's probably fair to say that I'm not as fully prepared as I should be. However, I'm taking the approach that I've completed a similar walking adventure before (albeit JOGLE was 10 years ago) and that in reality I've got all day to complete my required daily mileage.
On returning home from the Interrail trip, I'll have two days to finish packing my rucksack and to sort out final arrangements. My initial travel plans to get to the start in Chester have already been disrupted, firstly by the Eurovision Song Contest (demand for travel to Liverpool) and, secondly, by a train strike. However, it appears that my train is still running, but I'll be keeping a close eye on any changes. Fingers crossed 🤞
