Day 5 Llanfairfechan to Beaumaris (16.2 miles, cumulative 90.8)
After being pampered with unending hospitality for four days by my kind hosts Gordon and Shelley, today was time for me to branch out on my own. Gordon drove me to the station to catch the train back to Llanfairfechan. There was a slight panic when the info board on the train stated that the next stop was Bangor, nine miles beyond my stop, but fortunately this turned out to be an error.
Carrying a full pack for the first time since Day 1 slowed me down a little, but the walk to Menai Bridge was a pleasant one, initially clinging to the coast, then turning inland through woodland at Bangor. The sun made fewer appearances today, but it was dry and bright.
As I was about to cross the Menai Bridge, a man ran towards me. He introduced himself as Trevor, a major #cancerresearchuk supporter on Anglesey - he'd spotted my flag! The generosity of the local residents was noticable, as they fought to slow me down by dropping pound coins into my collecting jar.
The final miles to Beaumaris were on a quieter backroad, which seemed to rise forever. Tiredness crept in, so I enjoyed a late afternoon snooze on arrival at my accommodation.
My first meal out and my first pint - the walker's staple of lasagne and chips washed down with Cumbria Way beer - at the excellent George and Dragon pub.
